Skegness Info

Skegness in Lincolnshire is a traditional British seaside town and is located on the east coast of the UK. Families have flocked to this location for many years to enjoy its beaches and seaside attractions. The Jolly Fisherman is an image that is associated with Skegness and a large picture of the seaside symbol greets visitors as they enter the town.

The first ever Butlins was opened in Skegness in 1936, and since then Butlins has become a seaside attraction across the country and one of the UK's favourite holiday park destinations. Other local holiday resorts also attract healthy interest. Within a short distance are the seaside villages of Mablethorpe, Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards. The Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness itself is a popular family day out that mixes leisure with educational benefits as visitors are able to observe the seals in various different stages of their rehabilitation.

Skegness Stadium is located on the outskirts of the town and is host to the famous local stock car racing track. Caravan racing, speedway racing, truck racing, and fireworks displays are also held at the stadium. The coastal location also enables a variety of water sports in high season, including wind-surfing, water-skiing, and sea fishing.

Although traditionally a fishing town, the area has become primarily a tourist and holiday location, this is partly attributed to the Butlins holiday park. The variety of local attractions and the award winning beaches have further strengthened Skegness as a significant and popular UK seaside town.
