With many attractions, good shopping and plenty of sport, Basingstoke is an ideal location for a weekend or midweek break. The good transport links, vibrant town and the diverse culture makes the place one of Hampshire's most well known towns.
Just 30 miles from Portsmouth and 25 miles from Reading, it is home to many great attractions, the most popular two being the remains of England's last castle at Basle house and the Milestones Museum, which offers a history of Hampshire's past. The surrounding area is home to many parks, gardens and stately homes, including the National Trust site at Vyn House. Basingstoke's main shopping area is at Festival Place, just by the train station. There are also many art venues, with Anvil Arts running three venues providing art, music, theatre and speakers.
The town is home to semi professional sports teams in football, Basingstoke Town FC, rugby, Basingstoke RFC and ice hockey, the Basingstoke Bisons. Basingstoke also has a competing swimming team, the Basingstoke Bluefins as well as an American Football team. A new swimming pool, athletics track and hockey pitch are also under construction at Dawn Grange.
From its strong manufacturing past, this iconic location has still retained some industry with the manufacturing of drugs, but the town's main economy comes from hosting the headquarters of many international electronic, IT and insurance corporate companies. The new addition of a leading sports and leisure headquarters is a further boost to Basingstoke's reputation for a leading business centre.
