High Wycombe Info
The Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe, situated in the midst of the scenic Chiltern Hills, is a mere 29 miles from London's Charing Cross railway station. This very accessible destination is surrounded by villages such as Tylers Green and Hazelmere.
Though London lays claim to some of the best theatres in the world, the Wycombe Swan Theatre can compare favourably with them, as it offers a varied programme featuring genres such as ballet, opera, and classical theatre.
'The Rye' is a man-made lake surrounded by beautiful trees, offering visitors a nature trail along with fishing and boating in the summer months. Nearby Wycombe Air Park houses the Blue Max Museum and displays a collection of flying machines that have been used in many films. High Wycombe Museum has a range of interactive displays and exhibitions that pay homage to the traditional craft of furniture making.
High Wycombe has many recreational centres, such as Wycombe Heights Golf Centre, High Wycombe Rugby Union Football Club and Magnolia Park Country Club. The latter has football, cricket, tennis and bowling facilities.
High Wycombe has undergone a period of refurbishment, which has resulted in the construction of the new Eden Retail Centre with 107 shops. This, along with the Chilterns Centre, to the north, serves the wider community and is supported by various out-of-town outlets in the suburbs of Cressex and Wycombe Marsh. Bespoke furniture production has always been a prominent business in the town and although in decline, High Wycombe is still considered to be a great place to purchase quality furniture. The manufacture of paper products and precision instruments are relatively new additions to High Wycombe's industry.
